Grand Opening of “Kohloss” Biochar Plant
On April 30, 2025, Sonnenerde opened its new biochar facility “Kohloss” in Riedlingsdorf. With over 1,000 tons of annual output and 2,500 tons of CO₂ certificates, the plant sets new standards in sustainable carbonization. The event gathered 180 guests and featured expert talks and traditional music.
Biochar as a Water Reservoir in the Vineyard
The Fürstlich Castell’sche Domäne is pioneering sustainable viticulture by integrating biochar into its vineyards. By pyrolyzing 16,000 uprooted vines, they produced 11 tons of biochar, capable of storing 3,000 to 5,000 liters of water per ton. Mixed with compost, this biochar is incorporated into the soil to enhance water retention and soil vitality, reducing the need for artificial irrigation. This model project, supported by the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture, aims to provide long-term insights into soil health and water management in viticulture.
Progress on Pyrolysis Plant in Litschau
Construction of the new pyrolysis plant in Litschau is advancing rapidly: The first walls are already in place, and work continues on schedule despite rising temperatures. The facility aims to produce biochar from biomass residues, contributing to climate protection.
Construction Start of Pyrolysis Plant in Litschau
Construction has commenced on an innovative pyrolysis plant in Litschau, designed to convert wood residues into biochar and heat. The project aims to harness sustainable energy sources while contributing to CO₂ reduction.
